Normally I can count on any Summer Drought to immediately come to an immediate halt the week I go on vacation. I could hire myself as a rainmaker. Seriously.
I’ve been on three cruises in my lifetime (I’m in my 50’s) and it rained during two of the three. “Unusual” was what the crew kept saying.
I love the Jersey Shore but I bring rain. My grandmother lived there and I would go frequently until she went into a retirement home. It was so bad that the neighbors would inquire “is Linda coming from King of Prussia, because if she is then we may as well pack up now” – implying that rain was imminent. My father said that the Ocean City Chamber of Commerce puts out a “Linda Alert” when I’m coming into town because I bring rain. And, last year, I rented a house for one week and got chased (literally) told to leave by the Governor because of a Hurricane!
So it used to be that the way to end a drought was to send me on vacation, granting a breath of life to gardens, flowers, farmers and water basins everywhere.
This year, even I can’t break the drought. I went on vacation for a week at the beach and it only rained in the evening.
This year is unusual.
